MISSION
To establish an annual winter holiday Gingerbread House Competition and display, welcoming the diverse Athens community and supporting local non-profit projects.
VISION
To establish a winter holiday tradition that serves Athens residents as a point of pride, as a destination for visitors, and as a contributor to local projects honoring the diverse gifts and needs of this community.
OUR STORY
When idea machine and baking talent Johanna Nicol started playing around with flour and sugar one afternoon, was anyone really surprised that the result would be an annual winter holiday event designed to bring the community together and raise money for a local non-profit? Jo posted photos of her charming gingerbread house, wondering about a “real deal gingerbread house competition” in Northeast Georgia. Four women took the bait: Shaye Gambrell, Rose Harris, Amanda Knisely, and Christine Mallozzi joined Jo as the Athens Gingerbread Guild (established 2018). We’re aiming to make Athens just a little sweeter!
